TransMedMat builds on over 15 years of strategic development at RWTH Aachen, uniting world-class expertise in materials science, engineering, and medicine. Backed by extensive national and international funding (e.g., DFG, EU, BMBF, Werner Siemens Foundation), TransMedMat integrates six RWTH faculties and connects over 20 spin-offs, 40 patents, and major collaborative research structures (CRCs, CRUs, RTGs, and SPPs).

The consortium is supported by a unique infrastructure at RWTH Campus Melaten, including the Center for Biohybrid Medical Systems (CBMS), DWI, fiT, Fraunhofer institutes, and clinical facilities at the University Hospital RWTH Aachen. RWTH Innovation GmbH and start-up incubators further enable translation and commercialization.

TransMedMat thrives within a robust international research ecosystem that spans Europe, North America, and Asia. Through participation in numerous EU-funded programs (e.g., NEOLIVER, Biomend, ReWire), Canadian initiatives (e.g., Mend the Gap), and international graduate schools, the center ensures continuous scientific exchange and cross-border collaboration. Strategic partnerships with institutions such as Maastricht University, the Brightlands Chemelot Campus, and leading universities in Israel, Japan, and beyond enable joint projects, shared infrastructure, and mobility programs for researchers and students. This global engagement strengthens the scientific excellence of TransMedMat and fosters the rapid translation of medical material innovations into clinical applications worldwide. With strong ties to industry, academic networks, and clinical institutions, TransMedMat is positioned to advance pioneering solutions in regenerative medicine and personalized therapy on a global scale.
